Fix Computer Sticky Keys

Techniques for prying vary from keyboard to keyboard but even thin keys can come off in one piece if you are careful.

Press and hold both the shift keys on your keyboard for 5 or more seconds. Since stuck keys are usually the result of spilled liquid or excess dust build up cleaning your keyboard should address this issue. Now release them both and try turning on sticky keys again. If you ve got a sticky key or large debris stuck under one of your keys find something thin that you can pry with we use our opening picks but other soft plastic or wood implements can work just avoid metal.

Use a spudger or plastic opening tool to pry up sticky keys. For example if a laptop key acts stuck but is not stuck on the keyboard and nothing has been spilled on the keyboard then a driver or other piece of operating system software could be the root of the problem. Sticky laptop keys are a result of either dust buildup or spilled liquid. Insert the spudger under the side of a key.

In rare cases a sticky key is caused by a problem with a computer s software. If there are some keys in your laptop s keyboard that fail to register some strokes then you can fix that problem by reinstalling the keyboard or its drivers.
